YA✌🏻 Jack and I completed another challenge together—Taipei Marathon! Finished in 05:01:31, basically at the back of the pack 😵💫
Like, seriously—half the runners at the Taipei Marathon finished under 4 hours!? That’s insane 🤯
We were totally the last-minute cram crew, running on zero technique and all energy gels 😂
But now that we’ve finished our first full marathon, I’m feeling a bit more confident about next year’s CT Ironman 226km 💪🏻 —Long-winded thoughts below—
When we got to the start line, I instantly looked like a noob overdressed in long sleeves while everyone else was in singlets in 12°C rain🔥
Once the race started, I remembered the lessons from Wuling and Double Tower: don’t overestimate yourself.
The first 21K might feel “easy,” but that’s a trap—if you haven’t trained, it’s just warmup. Save your strength so the second half can match the pace of the first.
I still remember my first half marathon three years ago—those first 10K felt endless. But after surviving 26 hours in the Double Tower ride, my sense of time has evolved.
This time, the first 21K passed quickly. The real suffering hit at 30–35K, coming down from the elevated highway. Maybe it was the wind up there, but my legs were toast.
I wanted to walk so many times, but Jack’s pacing was rock solid, so I just clung on for dear life 😂
Most of the pain was in my ankles and calves—not the knees I’d been worried about!
After 35K, I think it became a mental game—your body still hurts, but with just 7K left, you start to push through.
Finally we entered the Taipei Stadium—as a regular civilian, stepping onto that track and seeing the finish arch actually got me a little emotional 🥹
Not quite tearful, but definitely goosebumps.
Jack’s uncle and aunts had already been waiting for us forever. Not only did they crush the race, they were totally fine going straight to BBQ and drinks after.
Meanwhile, Jack and I were inflamed and dying 😆
Will I sign up again? Probably not—I still prefer cycling 🚴🏻 YA✌🏻
