Today’s mission: Had the chance to learn about the shakuhachi from Master Jia-Chi @dom112
big thanks to Yen-Jen @yenjenliang for the introduction!
Sometimes it’s really all about timing—Jia-Chi, based in Taichung, happened to be coming to Taipei for a performance today. We had just connected yesterday, and it turned out he had a free slot this afternoon. So we arranged a spontaneous little meetup.
He even brought a shakuhachi with him to demonstrate and explain—although his main instrument was being repaired, so he brought a lighter, more portable one instead. On top of shakuhachi, he also plays xiao, dizi, and taiko (@taiko.tw).
We ended up sharing a lot of ideas—it felt like there’s so much we could explore together. Super grateful to have found another musical partner. Looking forward to future collaborations!
(And yes… I got so caught up in the conversation and performances, I forgot to take a photo 😓)
