The fourth music style I’ve always wanted to try: Field Recording Music.
This piece was recorded at the main shrine of Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine (新倉富士浅間神社) in Japan.
I dropped an underwater microphone into Asama no Kamimizu (浅間の神水)—a sacred spring said to be the breath of a divine dragon—and captured the sound of its flowing water.
Together with the sunlight that turned a silver water ladle golden at dawn, the piece became:
“The Golden Voice of the Dragon” 🐲🌞
This series began around two years ago, when I started cycling and training for triathlons.
I used to be a total indoorsy type, but spending more time outdoors made me fall in love with nature.
Especially on solo bike climbs in the mountains, where there are fewer people and cars, I started paying close attention to the sound of the environment.
Only when you’re fully immersed in it can you truly notice how magical every moment sounds.
These kinds of real-time, living soundscapes are almost impossible to replicate with studio monitors or pre-recorded sound libraries.
So last month, aside from riding in Japan, I also had a mission:
to collect natural sound and video recordings for future musical projects.
I captured tons of material during the trip—slept only 3–4 hours a night just to organize files, and still woke up early every day to ride.
It was exhausting, but 100% worth it 🥹
This is just the beginning—more to come in this series soon!
When I was playing the piano part, I kept trying to remember what shrines in Japan were called, but kept thinking of “temples” instead… so I jokingly started calling it “Temple Music” as I played 😂
For the piano sound, I toned down the wood friction noise and emphasized the muted attack when hitting the strings—giving it a soft, metallic resonance.
I also added a second piano tone with more audible spring and mechanical textures, but still kept it subtle—like gentle echoes in a small stream.
For the percussion, I chose:
Crisp wooden clicks (not too sharp)
Warm, mid–low metal tones
Bouncy, rounded thuds
The goal was to recreate the warm, everyday hopefulness I felt in that quiet moment.
For mixing, Jack @j_ack0831 gave me a small cave-like reverb, as if tucked deep underground.
Since the water was from a narrow mountain stream, not a big lake or ocean, we kept the high-end detail intact—so the piano and metallic percussion could shine and reflect the golden water ladle visually.
He also added a subtle tape layer to bring warmth to the whole mix—just like that soft, golden morning sunlight ☀️
Something you could enjoy peacefully every day.
