Field Recording Music Series: A Moment of Stillness (一瞬の静寂)
For this piece, I once again used AI for both vocals and lyrics, while I composed and arranged the music.
This time, the language shifted from English to Japanese, with piano as the main focus and vocals as a gentle texture.
The footage and ambient sounds were recorded in June at Lake Shoji (精進湖), one of the Fuji Five Lakes in Japan.
In that moment, the lake’s peaceful scenery and soft sounds instantly calmed me.
It’s been an intense few years, but standing there…
I felt like I was momentarily lifted out of life.
Just staring at the ripples on the lake,
listening to the wind, insects, and birds,
and seeing Mt. Fuji in the distance—
I finally understood why the Japanese revere Fuji as a sacred mountain.
The sense of peace I felt in that moment was rare,
and it gave my heart a rest I didn’t know I needed.
For the mixing, Jack adjusted the vocal treatment after seeing the visuals.
Instead of a wide, expansive vocal, he reshaped it into something softer and more inward.
He also used the texture of the AI vocal’s breathiness to gently lift the piano’s high end,
and left space in the center for the piano to speak.
We felt this approach reflected the contrast between the lake’s vast scenery
and the intimate, rippling emotion within.
It matched both the lyrics and the visual atmosphere much more deeply.
